Nobody who has read about the man thinks he is flawless.
Australians, for example, do not forget his part in the Dardanelles/Gallipoli campaign.
His "win" in WW2 masks a lot of his previous failures. People love to have heroes, and put them on pedestals, even though all of us are flawed in some essential way.
