Factoring trinomials makes no sense sometimes

xy=-10
x+y = 1
x-10/x = 1
x^2-x-10 = 0
x = [1±√41]2
Numbers are [1-√41]/2 and [1+√41]/2

There are no rational numbers that satisfy the conditions.

The numbers are (1 + √41)/2 and (1 - √41)/2 or approximately 3.702 and -2.702

Perhaps you imagine it makes no sense because trinomials don't always have rational factors.
