Should I study something I hate?

I'm really good with Computers , probably the best in my school but I literally am beginning to hate working with Computers. I have no genuine interest in pursuing a career in IT what so ever. I would rather become an electrician.

The only pro that comes with studying IT is that you can earn over $130,000 a year if you work your way up. But my Uncle who studied it says there are hardly any jobs. I don't know what to do? Should I become an electrician, (because I'll actually get a job due to the construction boom in my country, but I'll only earn $60,000) or should I study Information technology and risk the chance of not finding a job for a high pay rate?

major in electrical engineering and get a minor in IT. Get your electricians certificate.

Because you will ALSO have the IT training...and so many wireless computerized security systems rely on electrical with a backup, you will be able to work in both fields as a 'specialist'. You will be the one they call in when no one can figure it out because IT does IT and electrical does electrical..... and the problem will be the tiny little data chip that tells the switch to go on and off...and you will be the only person who knows this...

(The guy who works on our security system - he is employed by a big company - he is the specialist with the Electrical and the IT...we had this problem and after 3 weeks he was the only one who could fix it. He makes way over 130K a year...that is what I'm trying to say.)

I did. And I hate my job.

But I like money and I really like taking time off.

My job pays me enough money and gives me enough time off so that the hatred has been modified by a certain amount of greed.

After I have bought everything I wanted, paid off my house and vacationed everywhere I want to go and I have put away enough money to live off of for 30 years after I pay off my house...then I will tell the company what I think of them and lock my door and throw the key at the GIANT B who runs this corporation...and go home and swim and read and tell my husband and kids what to cook on the grill.

No. You should study something that you enjoy doing AND you can make a living at.

No, do something that you enjoy because you will spend a lot of time in the field and in school. True, it would be great money but would you be happy or even satisfied with waking up every morning to work with computers? If the answer is no, then choose something that speaks to you.

It's the usual question of money versus happiness. For which, this will help, http://bitly.com/1nxcF5F (Quora: Should I Choose a Career for Money or Happiness?)

No. If you hate it, you won't do well.

Find a happy medium. If you know what you're good at, that's great, but if you'll hate the obvious jobs you can do with it that's not good either. Try looking into other fields where knowing computer is a huge benefit. Sciences, medicine, marketing, business?
