Apartment contract on a lease.?

About a month ago I moved to the Plano, TX area and a family member helped me look for an apartment and had the setup done. I ended up postponing signing the lease due to free hotel during training when I arrived.

I was emailed recently to sign the lease since it's the week before training is over and I have to move-in next week as part of the process. Before I signed, I looked up reviews online and saw that there were bad reviews, a lot of the reviews were very recent.

I got an email back from them that said "to get out of the contract it is the re letting fee(paragraph 10) the amount you will need to pay to break the lease will be $1100.75." I never signed the lease to begin nor have I made payments, but I am afraid that they would send this to debt collectors and affect my credit score.

Forgot to include that I emailed them and told them that I'm opting out.

The 'Set up' they contacted the place and I talked with a representative. Two days after I arrived I went to the apartments, I also negotiated to get a machine and washer into the apartment as well as electricity and internet setup when I move-in, no lease signing because the unit is still being rented out. There's still a tenant living in the unit and unit Aug 31, 2017. Anyways, I asked a copy of the documents that show where this fee is located.

Ok, I was wrong. I did sign the lease and the penalty is the reletting fee that is mentioned. I'm negotiating with my manager to change work location to California, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get it, if not then I'll just stay with the rent. But in the event that I do get the location change would I be able to negotiate to lower the fee?

If you have signed nothing, including an application, and not given them any money they have no ground to attempt collection.

First, find me an apartment complex that has great reviews.
- I've never seen one.

That said if you haven't signed anything and haven't paid anything = whatever is in paragraph 10 wouldn't matter.
- how are they going to add the information to your credit report if you have no completed anything? like SSN, legal name? etc

They can't if you haven't signed anything.

You have no contract, therefore there is no contract to get out of.

If you did not sign the lease then they cannot charge you anything to break a contract that does not exist. If they try to then you have to sue them because that is illegal.

FYI: You have to take online review with a grain of salt. Only pissed off tenants that likely did something wrong ever bother to write reviews. People always get their panties in a wad when landlords call them on their bull. Happy tenants never bother to write review because they do not have an ax to grind.
