Is there a point in washing your hands?

When you wash your hands, you then touch a dirty sink handle, then you rub the sink handle s germs all over your hands with a towel, then you open a door touching a dirty door handle to leave the bathroom.
I m asking because, well, if your hands are dirty before you touch the sink handle, then wouldn t they be just as dirty after washing?

Do you remember Pee Wee's Playhouse? There was a character played by great actor Lawrence Fishburn called Cowboy Curtis. When he came on the show, he and Pee Wee would sing the Cowboy Song.

"Oh a cowboy visits foreign lands,
Anywhere he pleases.
And he always remembers to wash his hands
So he don't get no diseases!" 8^)

Yes, there is some chance of getting recontaminated by the faucet and the bathroom door, especially in public bathrooms. I figure whatever gets on my fingers from the faucet will come off when I dry my hands. And I usually use the paper towel to open the door. In fact I notice that some restaurants these days put a trash can next to the door for people who do this!

i always use my wrist to turn the sink off if its not automatic and usually in public restrooms use a paper towel to open the filthy door handle.

Use a single use paper towel/napkin to turn the sink off and open the door...then throw it away.
