Rounding 7.445?

Hello
If 7.445 is rounded to one decimal would the answer be 7.4 or 7.5? Do we start rounding from the last number or the second 4 (in hundreth place)?

You only need to look at the first digit you intend to drop. Here, that is the 4 in the hundredths place. That is, you're only looking at 7.44 if you want to round to tenths.
.. 7.445 ≈ 7.4

If the number is rounded to one decimal place, consider the second decimal place only, i.e. consider 7.44….

The number is then rounded to 7.4.

I will go a long explanation. Once you get the idea right, you will be able to do quickly and in fewer steps.

1.
Start with last number, 5. When you drop it, its influence on 4 is nothing (Note: if it were 6 or any number larger than 5, it will convert 4 into 5 before dropping out).

Now you are left with 7.44
3.
You are ready to drop last 4. Same logic applies for rounding up this time.

Your answer is 7.4

If you round the number after any decimal point, see the neglected number.If it is 5 or more than add one. Here it will be 7.4, If you want to retain the next number then it will be 7.45

Hi so as you start with a 4 figure amount it must be 7.5. if it was just 7.44 then it could be 7.4 however that last 0.005 makes all the difference.
