I have water leaked under my washer - should I call emergency maintenance or no?

I just noticed that there s a puddle of water under my washer in my apartment and I m not sure if that s reason to call for emergency maintenance or not? It s not flooding or leaking constantly, it s just standing in a puddle but I m not sure how much water there is or how long it s been there.

Do I need to call emergency maintenance for this or can it wait and just put in a request? The office opens in just under 1.5hrs, and I can call when it does open just to be sure that they get here for it today and make sure it s taken care of or going to be - but idk if this calls for an emergency call or not. Just an fyi: there had been a roof leak before I moved into my apartment, but I m not sure if it s related to this or not.

Simply put in a request. If you live in an upstairs unit you may want to confirm with the tenant living in the unit below that there are no leaks. Leaks can seep through the ceiling or into walls. They will probably repair the issue within a day or so because moisture causes mold over prolonged periods.

If you can avoid using the washing machine for a few days, I'd just got to the office and request that it be fixed. Many times they will just swap out the machine with another and take it to their workshop to figure out what is leaking. If you have a lot of laundry to do, however you might want to call and talk to someone in the office. The emergency number is generally reserved for times when the office is closed.call

I would assume this falls under building maintenance. Yes call your apartment office ASAP

A small puddle not doing any harm is not an emergency. If you can, turn the water off on the wall where the pipes connect from the washer, take a few pictures so you can show them how bad it was, contain and/or clean up the water, and go through non-emergency channels.

I used to repair washing machines and the water may be getting past the main bowl seal or from a worn pump. It is best to have it repaired now as I have seen good washing machines ruined by water leaks as if it drips on a moving pulley it flicks the water all around under the machine and have seen washing machines with this problem turn into a pile of rust with ruined motors. It may be as simple as a cracked hose but more likely it is a worn leaky seal or a worn pump. Have it looked at before it wrecks the motors in your washer.

Not an emergency.

Turn off the valves going to the washer.

Call maintenance when the office opens.

Don't pay for an emergency call out. Dry up the water with a cloth first, or leave to dry. Then try the machine again but keep looking underneath with a torch if necessary to see if any particular cycle it is carrying out is the one responsible for the leak. If nothing then it suggests the leak is from elsewhere.

Water on the floor is doing the floor no favors. The longer you wait, the more damage it does. Call right now.

It doesn't quite rise to the level of "emergency," but Maintenance needs to know about it immediately so they can assess and address it appropriately.

Source: I am a pro handyman, and few things ruin my day more than people saying, "Well, the puddle never got any bigger so I figured it wasn't a big problem," as their toilet is visible in the crawlspace, through the hole in the floor where it fell.

You could wait until it falls through the floor. Of course call.

Tip: often this is caused (believe it or not) by using too much detergent. Mop the puddle and run a couple of cycles with LESS detergent and check.
