that depends on what the settlement is for and how it was administered and taxes are not 50% but your lawyer may get 50%

You would be lucky to get even one-third of it. Court costs and lawyer fees will take a lot. As for taxes, that depends on what the award was for. If it's for medical expenses, I don't think it is taxed. Punitive damages are taxed. Most other settlements or awards are taxed.

Any funds transfered due to a court hearing's verdict is not taxable. You will get all of it that is actually paid which depends on the defendant's financial status and capabilities of paying if judgement results in your favor.

I am not an attorney I used to develop websites and have had several dirtbags I did work for in other fields attempt suing me in a civil case when the fact was, that I proved in court (without a lawyer, I documented everything), they didn't pay me in full for the work I performed or services I provided so I counter-sued and won. Every time. Because I was telling the truth that the other party was trying to get what they didn't deserve, I did what they did pay for or they didn't pay me at all was the fact - so I was awarded the funds and...IF they had the money and actually paid...I got every penny of it other than the court costs which didn't come from me either (it came from them).

In the cases I was unlucky enough to experience that the other party ordered to pay did not pay....there are options. That is what constables are for, and you don't really need to handle that yourself if they don't pay all you have to do is call the court and let them know you haven't been paid.

Keep in mind that after a judgement has been made the person ordered to pay (they also have to pay the court costs) has a set amount of time to at least begin trying to make payments toward the balance they owe if they're not ordered to pay immediately.

If they do not pay the D.A. can and will send a constable to their home. The constable will take and sell anything they own and return the funds from the sales to the person awarded those funds through the paperwork stating the result of the hearing (the person who won in court).

Depends on what it is for? Injury: no. Lost wages: yes. Punative damages:yes. Compensatory damages: no.

If you were awarded such a settlement, you could afford to have your lawyer summarize the award for your tax accountant.
