A researcher estimated that there were eight billion grains of sand per cubic meter on one particular beach. If the mass of one of these grains of sand is approximately 3.5 × 10–7 grams, what is the approximate mass of one cubic meter of sand on this particular beach?

Steps would be helpful!!

8 billion = 8 x 10^9
That times 3.5 x 10^(-7) =
28 x 10^2 =
2.8 x 10^3 grams =
2.8 kg

(3.5 x 10^(-7) grams)*(8 x 10^9)
= 28 x 10^2 grams = 2.8 kg.

Very unlikely! The density of dry sand is more likely 1500-2000 kg/m^3.

Oh well, you can't correct their nonsense!

(8 * 10^9) * (3.5 * 10^(-7)) = 28 * 10^(9-7) = 2.8 * 10^3 g

= 2,800 g = 2.8 kg

it's a bit too light for 1 m^3 o_o

Is billion 1,000,000,000 or 1,000,000,000,000? :|

British English => 1,000,000,000,000:

(8 * 10^12) * (3.5 * 10^(-7)) = 28 * 10^5 = 2.8 * 10^6 g

= 2.8 * 10^3 kg = 2800 kg, a bit too heavy this time? 😧😣
