Native speakers of English, could you help me with English paragraph?

I am translating a paragraph and since I'm not a native speaker of English I find some phrases difficult to understand. Does the word 'auspicious' mean in this paragraph?

These works by Tadao Ando evoke the traditional Japanese concept of oku, a procedure whereby a series of auspicious sites may be conceptually linked over great distances, just as the traditional tokonoma or domestic shrine could be associated with the peak of a sacred mountain via a series of shrines and torii.

"Auspicious" usually has to with carrying good luck or success. But that doesn't help me much with understanding this paragraph, as the idea of an "auspicious site" seems to be a Japanese concept, according to the paragraph. I would have to interpret the meaning as "significant" or "important" in some good sense.
