No, when my doctor has ask for them, he asks for 8 to 12 hours of not having eaten. Does not matter if I have slept or not, but since the appointments are normally morning ones, I will have slept. The one time I did an all night shift before going into the lab, my morning blood glucose was much higher than my normal of 95 to 120 (it was 199 that morning). The first thing he asked me was how much sleep I had the night before, or had I been taking any over the counter cold meds, both can elevate your fasting blood glucose levels.

I work third shift. The last time I had fasting blood work done, I decided I wanted to go right after work. I ate my dinner late in the evening before going to work. During my work shift, I only drank water and ate nothing else. In the morning, after about a 10 hour fasting, but without sleep, I ended up with one of the best readings I have had in the last three years.

I am not diabetic.

if it is for blood glucose-you really should-stress can raise your bg--and lack of sleep can cause stress--so can illness-so don't go when you have a cold either!
