How do I get my Doctor to test for Lyme Disease?

I have been unwell for 4/5 years. I have had loads of tests done for coeliac disease, rheumatoid and nothing has come back apart from mild hypothyroidism for which I receive treatment.

I worked in a Vets for five years and as such handled loads of tick and flea ridden animals or been exposed to that kind of thing. I constantly had bites and bruises of some sort. I never considered Lyme Disease as I thought I had to have a rash but for some reason I looked it up the other week. When I was reading the symptoms and that there is a progression in the disease a lot of things made sense and it would also explain as time is going on that I am having trouble with numbness in my face and feet, I have pins and needles in my legs and arms and sometimes they just ache really badly like they are starting to go numb as well as my other symptoms.

My Doctors have made me feel like I'm crazy or just depressed and this is why I feel unwell but my depression didn't start until well after my first symptoms had shown up. I'm just miserable and desperate for an answer but I don't want to seem like one of those wankers who think they know better than the Doctor after one google search. I also understand that a lot of Lyme Disease tests come back negative when they are positive. How can I get my Doctor to test me?

I live in Northern Ireland and I am a 23yr old female.

Listen to me, you are not crazy and if you feel like you have Lyme disease and you have tested negative for everything else, then please make sure to keep on fighting.

First of all, your doctor has to give you a course of antibiotics if a tick bite is even suspected. The CDC requires it and doctors have to follow along because of complications detecting the disease. Also, in early stages it's nearly impossible to test positive because your body has yet to build antibodies. Furthermore, don't listen to your doctor, listen to your heart and instinct. You can have a doctor test you for Lyme with an Elisa or Western blot test. Both are approved testing methods but to warn you, they are far from accurate. Don't be alarmed if it comes back negative. A Lyme diagnosis should be made based on a clinical diagnosis; symptoms, events, exposure and ruling out all related diseases that play along with your symptoms. I suggest using igenex for testing and skip the nonsense. Don't give up, fight!

In the U.K. you are entitled to a second opinion.
See another Doctor in your practice preferably a young one and ask for tests. Tell them what you have written here.
I for one think there could be something in your thinking.

Ask to be tested on the grounds that it may be possible that it is your problem. Not rocket science is it.
