What happens if you pay a civil demand LATE?

A friend I was with was shoplifting in six flags. I payed for my stuff and she didn't do when we walked out eating it we were both in trouble. They didn't call the cops, they just had us sign a couple papers and we have to pay a civil demand. I'm paying the demand but I'm sending the money in the mail so it will come a couple days late . Will they try to further the issue by suing me or something if it's late? It's only $50. I'm going to call the firm tomorrow because they're not open today but I wanted other people's opinion because I'm freaking out.
