i think it's A (found) because it makes the most sense, especially because there's a semi-colon before she began to look for it. It wouldn't be B or D. B doesn't make sense and D adds an extra she where it isn;t necessary. C could work, but with the semi-colon, there's a break in the statement, so I think A makes the most sense.

Found (a) the sentence already has Maria as the subject so you wouldn't state she found, you wouldn't user to find because because it is in past tense (went and it wouldn't fit after the and) and the same for finding, it doesn't work with the went being in past tense.

In English there are rules of grammar. If Maria WENT to her room, it is present tense so found would be the correct word.

In Britain "found" would be the way, from the choice you have. The other ways are grammatically wrong.

As a 70-year-old Briton, the most natural way for me would be: "Marie went into her room and saw that her alarm clock was missing, so she began to look for it". I feel that the semi-colon and the lack of "so" makes the whole thing feel too formal. The use of any form of "find" (as in "found") also feels formal. I also query the comma after "rom" - I feel that it is not needed.

I think that "finding" is best, and that the semicolon should be a comma.
