Heat separate the mixture of the unknown with potassium dichromate solution acidified with dilute sulfuric acid.
If the unknown is an alcohol, the orange reaction mixture will turns green.
This is because orange acidified dichromate solution would be reduced to green chromium(III) solution by alcohol.
If the unknown is an ether, there will be no observable change.
This is because there is no reaction.
An alternative method is to use boiling points. Since alcohols possess much strong intermolecular attraction, it will have a distinctly higher boiling point than an ether.
Is that any alcohol and any ether or alcohol (ethanol) and ether (diethyl ether).
