So what do we know about fear and God?

[2 Timothy 1:7] For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
God gave us "power" to encounter foes and dangers; power to bear up under trials; power to triumph in persecutions.

[Romans 8:31] What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
God is "in us," AND "with us," in secret sustaining power -- He helps and protects us.

Fear and faith are opposing forces. Fear is believing something, or someone other than God. Therefore, fear makes us subject to Satan and his death, just as faith makes us recipients of all that God has to offer.

Just know that "fear," or "doubt" cannot “just overcome” us. We have to let it in. In the same way that faith comes by hearing the Word of God, fear comes by hearing or seeing something contrary to God’s Word.

It's critically important for you to understand that your THOUGHTS are the cause, and your LIFE is the effect.

Now, you can banish all fear by standing (meditating) on God's promises. You can start with [2 Timothy 1: 7].

First off, it's not the cigarettes/pot that's making your life feel 'off track'. It's the people you hang out with, and exchanging potheads for zealous christians is Not something you're going to enjoy. Find other people to smoke with. It's really easy to do.

Second, the 'devil' has nothing to do with any of this. This is reality, and you're probably old enough to know better. Imaginary monsters do not exist. You're probably getting dirty looks because you reek of cigarettes, genius. FYI, they smell awful. Pot is generally better, but no less smelly. If you want to feel better, quit smoking the cigarettes. Nicotine addiction does this to a person, and maybe lay off the pot a bit too. It's not nearly as addictive, but if you're smoking over three times a week, you may as well be addicted.

Your family is right. Most of this is infact in your head. The cars on the street don't give half a **** about you. The people in stores give even less of a ****. Stop worrying about other people's perceptions of you, and don't rely on your magic sky douche for help. You will receive none. You are the only one that can change your life. The alleged creator of everything has better things to do than worry about your insignificant problems.

There are no such thing as demons or the devil, or anything like that. There is such a thing as mental illness, and that may be a side effect of the weed, or coming off it, quitting smoking. You are doing a good thing in trying to change your life for the better, but don't take this religious stuff too seriously, you'll start seeing angels and demons everywhere, particularly if you are predisposed to that sort of insanity.

First get evaluated for any mental illness. At the same time, find friends at your church so you'll be surrounded by supportive people to be with you whatever you are going through.

Jesus is quite capable of protecting you

My pastor was a preacher's kid. So he was raised in the church and he would say at times that a kid raised in the church has a certain time when they have to personalize their own faith. They learn the right things to say in church, when to say them, but when they get old enough they have to make their faith real or just walk away from the whole thing.

So it sounds like you are just going through what everyone who is exposed to church goes through. It seems it's time for you to make your choice. Were you called to be a man or woman of God? Or was that just something that happened to you without rhyme or reason?
