Why do very few people know about the African french speaking countries?

When I mention French language, people usually think France, Quebec, and maybe Haiti.

never do I hear, Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal,Congo's, Mali etc

It's because of it is not their native language ( probably) and / or, they don't know that in these countries, they also speak French.

I would assume that everybody who lives in those countries knows about them, and they would add up to a whole lot more than "very few people."

The answer is simple they ignore History(french colonies).

It's a pity, because that's the fastest growing Francophone population in the world. If the population growth there continues, French may become the second most spoken language in the world behind Mandarin Chinese.
