My school lied to my mother, turned a kindle over to the court systems, and all parties agreed to have it destroyed without notifying my mom?

what happened was my mother lent a kindle fire 7 to her grandson who is in early elementary, and he brought it to school, well the teacher took the kindle and my mom had to go in to the office to get it back, well she got it then went to the class room and told the teacher he could take it home with him and to make he got it on the bus, since his mother had been upset over custody issues with my brother my mom knew he wouldn't be able to see her to get it back for a few weeks, well what do you know the teacher took it back to the office, well the school called his mom and she claimed that it had porn on it and to have it destroyed, well the school had the sheriff come and get it, and all 3 parties agreed to have it destroyed, and they all left my mom in the dark until my nephew told her the school took it again, and after going in to ask for it the Superintendent had told her they had given it back to the kids so they assumed they were lying, but it wasn't until the sheriffs deputy came and told her did she really find out what happened, the kindle itself was $50 dollars, but she had it for a few years so the books, apps, and music all added up to $500, now I believe she will take the school to small claims court for the kindle, but she's more upset that the school acted without telling her, and Superintendent of the school her family has been apart of since the 1930s, this is what's upsetting, any advice legal or anything on what we can do about this?
更新1:

there was no porn on the kindle, it was a lie the mother made up out of spite, they didn't even check the kindle, which had the pass code on the back so they could've checked but they didn't but the what has my family angry is the Superintendent lied to my mothers face when he said the kindle went home with my nephew.

Too bad. There was SOMETHING signed by an adult that stated you understand that the school is in no way responsible for toys you allow your kid to take. It's on you and you won't see a dime.

Lying is not against the law. But someone TOLD them there was porn on the thing, they believed it.

In court the kindle is only worth about $5. You don't get the new price, you get the used price. And software can't be destroyed. It's up to you to make a copy of your software.

This is a great example of why kids should not be given non-school issued electronics to take to school.
They're going to do what kids always do- play with them in class and get them taken away.

Hopefully next time you all will do the right thing and keep those disruptive, unnecessary electronic deices out of the classroom.

I'm confused. My understanding is that the kid brought a kindle to school and it was confiscated. Mom went to the office and got it back. The kid brought it back to school, it was confiscated again, and the faculty agreed to have it destroyed. Is that right?
