Should I go to nursing school or pursue public relations?

My mother's current dream for me is to go to nursing school so I will be better equipped to care for my grandma who is sick. I've been staying with her for years and she's helped raise me. However , she is also abusive towards me, as she was towards my mother. My mother told me that even though she took her abuse , she also helped out financially and helped took care of her so I must do the same . My dream is to save up and move out of the house as soon as I turn 18. I plan on going to a reputable liberal arts college and studying communications there. After graduation I would like to pursue public relations as a career. Those to professions could not be more different, and more definately do not want to spend the rest of my life taking care of someone I can't stand . What should I tell my mother?

Do what YOU WANT TO DO. It's your life, not your mother's. You will be the one doing that
job the rest of your life. There are good nursing people to care for your grandmother.

do you want to be miserable, or happy? answering that will tell you what to do. while it's nice to get approval from family, sometimes we have to do things on our own.

If YOU want both careers equally, then I would certainly suggest nursing. There is a shortage of RNs. The job pays well. The only downside is that you may be put on any shift if you work in a hospital or nursing home. This includes working holidays. Nurses in hospitals and nursing homes work all hours. If you prefer, you might consider working as a school nurse. You work the same hours as teachers.

Check the Occupational Outlook Handbook on line (https://www.bls.gov/ooh/). It will give you some idea of training and employment potential of all fields of nursing and public relations.

Nursing. The p. R. Business is pretty much dead.
