Im 16, when should I go to the gynecologist?

I think it's a good idea to start going around your age. Try to find a female doctor, it makes it so much better. Especially with your first visit, the doctor should go over what they will do during the exam. They should also ask your permission to do a breast exam. It's not fun, but it's necessary and a good idea.

We NEVER do in the UK unless we have a problem. There is no reason for you to go. It seems to be an American custom not done in the UK or Australia.

You only need to go if you have a gynaecological illness or if you are American.
Gynaecology doesn't include the breasts.

At 16 you don't need to go unless you are sexually active or have a problem. Your first visit should be around 21 and please get a Female doctor

A woman who is not sexually active or one who has no problems with her reproductive organs needs to see a GYN. A 16-year-old girl certainly has no need to do so.

A GYN is an MD who specializes in the care and treatment of women's reproductive organs. Most woman first consult a GYN when they are in their early 20's; when they are sexually active; when they are seeking hormonal birth control; or when they are having problems with their menstrual periods or with their reproductive organs.

There is absolutely no need for a 16-year-old girl to consult a GYN specialist. Her regular family doctor can attend to all her needs just as well as a GYN - and cheaper too. Her family doctor usually has no reason to examine a 16-year-old girl internally, not unless she is sexually active or she is seeking birth control.

It is not necessary to shave; no matter which doctor she sees.

When you are 21 or sexually active. You are much too young for a gynecologist appointment.
