Do tattoos interfere with employment?

I want to get tattoos on my forearms but I fear not getting a job when I'm older. I really want to get some ancient greek god tattoos. I'm studying Computer Science right now, so when I graduate and find a job I'll more than likely be wearing a suit which covers up my forearms. Is it safe to say I can get a tattoo?

Get the job first, then get the tatts. Otherwise make sure you keep them covered up for any interview and at least until you're respected enough in your employment (when you get employed)

Yes. Long sleeves will cover them right up. It's illegal to discriminate based on appearance but it's best not to show your tattoos until you have the job.

It won't interfere with employment if you get your tattoos on a less obvious part of your body! Your back depending were you have it! I'm going to do my back and kidneys! I can easily cover them up with a uniform or shirt! I won't mention I have any on my app! The arms, face, back of neck, your legs if you wear shorts for a job are all obvious and I think employers would be apprehensive! It's better to get tattoos that you can hide! That's a choice were you want it though! Chris

It's fine. Think about what you are about to do properly before you do it. I have tattoos on my arms, now I'm can't go out without covering the tattoos with a tattoo cover if I have to wear a sleeveless blouse. No a freemason tattoo is not what to everyone.

Go for it. Think about it carefully though.

Depends on the company really. In some places, they may ask a potential employee to be tattoo free. But overall, I believe that most places are becoming more accepting of them. When it comes down to it, if you have an idea of what company you'd like to work for, do a little research and see what their policy is. Also, since you'll be wearing a suit anyways, it may not matter in the end, except for those company parties in the summer.

"It's illegal to discriminate based on appearance "

Huh? PROVE I did not hire you because of the tats. It is also my policy not to hire people with tattoos IF visible or will be visible even after you begin work. Tats show you have no respect for your body.

I do not hire people with visible tattoos.
Not fair? You can hire who you want when you own the company.

Your choice. Keeping in mind that in some climates, long sleeves can be VERY uncomfortable in summer months. And, cover up make up is probably expensive and uncomfortable. I would skip the tats, until I had a Very secure job and knew how management felt about same.

Yes, they can.
I always recommend getting a job, then getting tattoos. This way your tattoo does not interfere with your job.
You assume that you will be wearing a suit, but you might find a great job with fun people who are very casual, and don't want you to wear a suit, so you will be showing your tattoos.

Depends on the company and the employer. Some are more casual about tattoos then others.
You can always ask if they have a policy or dress code when it comes to tattoos.
