have an older house that is supposedly insulated. when its real hot out side my thermostat say 74 nut i have it on 68 or 70. it never leaves 74 and you can definitely feel it. my bedrooms stay cool and the bathroom is the coldest room in the house. but my living room dining room and kitchen are warm(74) what is going on?

Close the vents in the cooler rooms. Make sure the vents are wide open in the warmer rooms.

call for a/c service. usual cause is low refrigerant [freon] ... lack of pressure here limits the temp the a/c can achieve and causes it to run continuously [which drives your electric bill up]
other possible cause -- cooling fins outside need cleaning [use hose on highest pressure avail].

Maybe you need to have it serviced. Or maybe you need a new thermostat.
