So this is the question:

Megan buys a frozen turkey
She is going to defrost it with these instructions:

Allow 2 hours for each 450kg

The turkey weighs 5.4 kg

Q - How many hours will it take to defrost the turkey?

It looks really easy and I'm probably being stupid, but how do you work this out?

Two hours for every 450kg?! I think you're confusing the units. Fix that and you'll have an easier time.

A 450 kg turkey? Did you call the Guinness World Record people? Where do you find an oven large enough for a 990 pound turkey? That's several years of turkey leftovers.

But, at two hours per 450 kg, if the turkey weighs 5.4 kg (at least that's reasonable), at 2 hours per 450 kg it would take 5.4*2/450 = 0.024 hours or 86.4 seconds.

(I think you copied something incorrectly. The problem parameters simply do not make sense.)

It's a ratio.
5.4/450 = 0.012

multiply 2 hours by 0.012

2 x 0.012 = 0.024 hours = 1 minute 26.4 seconds.

However the question sounds wrong. Should it be 450 g?

In which case, convert 450 g to kg and do the same as above:
5.4/0.450 = 12

12 x 2 hours = 24 hours.

For 450 kg, it takes two hours (120 minutes) to deforst
For 1 kg, it takes 120/450 = 12/45 = 4/15 minutes to defrost
For 5.4 kg, it would take (5.4)(4/15) = 1.44 minutes
1 min 26.4 sec

divide turkey weight by 450g then multiply by 2 hours
