Am I overreacting?

If you have changed your diet to a low-carb diet and added some exercise, your A1C should be much better already. If you haven't been testing at home and don't want to wait for a lab A1C ask your doctor if they can do one that gives immediate results or if they could at least give you a finger stick glucose test so you can get some sort of number right then. And yes, you are overreacting ;)

RELAX and learn that this is how the rest of your life is going to go!! I hate going to the doctor every 3 months, having blood draw, and having the medical person frown at the results.

Do not let the medical person bully, but also pick and choose which of their dictates you will follow. I had one doctor flat out tell me that I HAD to quit eating red meats, cheeses, eggs, salt, and any other fatty foods. She said I HAD to eat the mediterranian diet of fish and pasta!! I am one person who cannot and will not do that! I have taught health and nutrition too many years to believe in one diet fits all!!

no need to be nervous. When I was diagnosed and put on metformin I went to a diabetes class offered at my local hospital and it was a few weeks and it taught us how to watch portions and how to control sugars and carbs. In 3 months they will likely send you for a A1c and it will tell you how you are doing also get a meter and check each morning and keep a log of what it is when you wake up before eating or drinking.
