2. The decomposition of carbonic acid into carbon dioxide and water is a chemical reaction that occurs upon opening a carbonated beverage. If this is an equilibrium chemical reaction, explain using Le Chatiler’s principle why the beverage will continue to effervesce carbon dioxide gas.

The equation of the reaction :
H₂CO₃(aq) ⇌ H₂O(l) + CO₂(g)

CO₂ is the only gaseous component in the equilibrium system. As the reaction occurs upon opening a carbonated beverage, CO₂ gas continuously escapes from the container of the beverage. According to Le Chatelier's principle, the equilibrium position continuously shift to the right in order to encounter the loss of carbon dioxide. Therefore, the beverage continues to effervesce carbon dioxide gas.
