323 grams of silicon reacts with 5.49 moles of nitrogen gas to form trisilicon tetranitride

Calculate the theoretical yield of trisilicon tetranitride based upon the initial amount of nitrogen gas.

Molar mass of Si = 28.1 g/mol
Initial number of moles of Si = (323 g) / (28.1 g/mol) = 11.5 mol

3Si + 2N₂ → Si₃N₄
Mole ratio N₂ : Si₃N₄ = 2 : 1

When 5.49 moles of N₂ completely reacts :
Maximum number of moles of Si₃N₄ formed = (5.49 mol) × (1/2) = 2.745 mol

Molar mass of Si₃N₄ = (28.1×3 + 14.0×4) g/mol = 140.3 g/mol
Theoretical yield based upon the initial amount of N₂ gas = (2.745 mol) × (140.3 g/mol) = 385 g
