How long for a Stab wound from a 7" blade to heal?

In the book I'm writing, An American Marine is stabbed in the thigh by a Brazilian ROTA Operative with a K-Bar knife,before a Russian KGB sniper attempts to kill them both. I want to know how long until the Marine will be back in combat.

Did it hit an artery or vein? Was it contaminated with dirt or poop? Was it a stab or a slash? It could be anything from a superficial wound under the skin to a deep wound down to the bone. It could kill you or cause you to lose the leg. I would assume the Brazilian would not keep his knife nice and clean so infection is probably likely. I do not think the Marine would be back into combat soon. (If I was going to be in a situation where I had to use a knife, I would not keep it clean either.)
