Wwii gas mask question?

Just bought a wwii gas mask and i knew it wasn t in that great condition but it STINKS how can I clean it

Remove the filters. Clean it with mild soap and water. Keep in mind the rubber is old so you might need something like ArmorAll to restore it. Do not think it is functional, it is not. I doubt you can even find sealed filters for it anymore.

Well I meant that it smelled like something else the rubber is defiantly deteriorating but that's not it also why would I be lying thanks I will try soapy water

rubber deteriorates with time. That is what you smell

Depends on what it is made of

By WW2 you had masks made of rubber, canvas, and leather

At any rate you don't need to be putting it on and you most definitely don't need to be drawingva breath through whatever filter it may have had with it

They all stink. Soapy water is what is supposed to be used to clean them.
