I'm 15 years old, and would like to be allowed a certain amount of privacy. What I am asking my parents for is the right to close my bedroom door and have them knock to let me know that they are entering. I just like knowing that I can have a safe space for myself in the house where I can feel like I have a little bit of independence and control over myself. I think I'm a generally good kid in the sense that I get good grades and don't do illegal drugs or anything like that. Sure, I've been rude or impatient with my parents at times, but I don't think that that is my general attitude towards them. Anyhow, my father gets extremely annoyed when I close my bedroom door when I am not changing clothes. He says that I wouldn't be closing my door if I wasn't trying to hide something, but that is not the case at all. I understand where he is coming from, but I feel like he isn't really listening to what I think. How can I get my parents to have a conversation about this without them automatically assuming that I must be doing something wrong if I want more privacy?
PS- Asking my mom to help me talk to my dad is not an option, since I already asked. She said that it is not up to her, but up to my father, and she isn't going to try to change his mind.

Start sitting around your room naked, then when they express distaste for having to see you waving your junk around, inform them that if they don't like it they should let you close the door.

Your mom should take the door away since you want to hide things from her. You dont need or deserve privacy/ You can always change clothes in the bathroom
