There is a reasonable compromising formula, which you can easily learn from your beloved parents. They will only guide you properly.

Sometimes we just get the pits, BUT we should find a way to make the pits useful
That song "Life Is Just A Bowl of Cherries" was written during the great depression of the late 1920's to the early 1930's, when what Americans thought was security came to an end. Many people, rich and middle class, lost their money as the Stock Market crashed, and a few actually killed themselves because of it.
I think that the song was about the attitude that one can adopt about the ups and downs of life in this world. Everybody will not be rich, and even the rich aren't all happy, We can lose people we love, but we can also cherish our memories of them, and can try to make cherished memories with the loved ones that we still have. Sickness can cause a lot of bad circumstances, but it is better to discover what one can still do in spite of it.
Perhaps our attitude toward life should not be dictated by our circumstances - rather, we can control how we react to them. For instance, instead of feeling beaten down because we are getting "the pits", one could consider that the pits are the seeds from which one can grow new cherry trees - a new chapter in our life.
Faith can remind us that being anxious over things we can't control won't add anything good to our lives. Christ told us that we are the light of the world, and we must let our light shine. It is amazing how doing for others makes our own problems less "pit-iful".
Yes you can, it's just that people tends to reject the idea

Thankfully, I have been fortunate to get mostly a bowl of cherries....a few times I have gotten "the pits..." but isn't that true of most people?
