I ve been trying to transfer pics from my samsung galaxy camera to my phone. The phone tech guy told me that I could simply take the sd card out and insert it into my phone, which I did. It worked great and all the pictures showed up in my gallery, but all the pics erased once I took the sd card out again. Why won t it save the pics?

When you plug the SD card into the phone, your gallery just includes the SD card when it looks for photos, it does not transfer them into the phone memory. To transfer them you would need to use a program such ES File manager. If you do that though you need to know where to move them to.

The phone was displaying the images on the card, not images stored in the phone itself. What you need to do is to copy them to the phone. Now, you could do that a couple of different ways. One of them would be to upload the photos to a cloud based website and then access them on your phone. Another way would be to email the photos yourself and open them on the phone.

there must be an option somewhere to transfer the pictures from your sd card to the cameras memory. Some cameras (the older models) dont have that option

Once you put the card in your phone you need to copy thom from the card to the phone's internal memory.

An app in your phone automatically detects the SD card and includes all photos there in gallery. You should manually copy the photos from the SD card to a folder within the camera's internal storage unit. Another option would be to copy the photos to another SD card which you then leave connected to the phone at all times.
