It’s a Chinese word, has a basic meaning of “and(with)”. And when it’s followed by another word “平 – basic meaning is flat”, then this “two words” of “和平” has a meaning of peace. In a rather complicated phrase, which includes the word “和”, like “以和為貴”, has a meaning that says to maintain a harmonious relationship with other people is very important.
