The sheer joy people often derive from religion is rather remarkable, don't you think? Can you say a few words then, something I can put in my report? Due by Thursday. Thanks.
Whenever I see a person carrying a sign that says, "God Hates Fags!" I say to myself, there is a person that knows how to enjoy themselves. When I hear a christian railing on about how all muslims should die, I am absolutely amazed at the incredible joy, they are experiencing. When the KKK gets together for a little cross burning, their joy is palpable!
BTW - that was sarcasm. Christianity is the religion of hatred, intolerance, racism, and pedophilia; there is no joy in their small hateful little minds.
Yes.
Have you stopped to consider the sheer joy many people derive from drugs?
Yes, I have. I was raised by Pentecostal parents and it was that "sheer joy" which drove me to atheism. Have you any idea what it's like to be the only sane person in a church full of crazy lunatics?
A few words? Certainly: No, I have not stopped to consider any sheer joy derived from the belief in any religion, just as I have not stopped to consider the sheer joy derived from believing in fairies, elves and unicorns. What's relevant to me is that none of these beliefs are plausible, not how much or how little joy is derived from them. No amount of theoretically-derived joy is able to make me believe in something that I consider to be infantile and ridiculous.
The joy of the Spanish Inquisition, that was good!
They're faking it. The truth is, they are motivated by fear. Fear of being cast out of their social group, fear of being caught sinning and fear of their mythical god concept sending them to mythical hell.
No, I have not stopped to consider the sheer joy many people derive from religion because I am too busy enjoying the immense joy I derive without religion.
Are you trying to make the case for religion because it makes people happy? That can easily be countered with the depression and madness it drives people into. That argument also completely misses the point. The reality/truth value of a belief has nothing to do with how it makes people feel.
Yeah, but lets forget the whole "you're a worthless sinner" bit that gets drilled into your head over and over. Stuff that makes you feel completely worthless for having totally normal thoughts and urges. "Oh no, I thought of sex... I'm so TERRIBLE!" And lets not forget the extremists. Does their "joy" from screaming "Allah Akbar" as they perform a suicide bombing make up for the death and destruction they cause?
Lets be real, if this was an actual argument, we'd all still believe in Santa Claus.
The Sheer MINDLESSNESS.
No thanks.
I don't believe in Leprechauns, either.
I don't need belief in imaginary creatures to be happy. I feel sorry for anyone who does.
Jesus said I came to bring a sword, I will divide mother from child, father from son, and they will be hated. They were fed to the lions for years. You get it?
They have no idea what it is they are missing
It is a drug. The higher the high the lower the fall.
People on crack cocaine or weed look pretty joyful as well but I'm not going to join them either!
Yes, many drug addicts claim to derive sheer joy from their drugs of choice, too,
but that doesn't mean that picking up a drug habit or a religion is a wise choice.
Live clean.
