They will check to find out if you're an illegal alien. They don't want to adopt out to someone who's going to get deported.
all shelters are different ... go to one and ask
Obviously it never occurred to you to ask them, Why?
TRY actually asking local shelters.
We don't have a clue obviously
Each organisation will have different rules although most tend to be the same. Call them and ask, or go online. But you should expect to be required to have a fenced area, if you rent, show proof that your landlord allows you to have a dog on the property and generally show that you understand what taking on a dog means, especially a Rescue dog who may well have 'baggage'. I have worked as a Visitor for two Shelters now, the current one doesn't list it being necessary for an owner to be there 24/7 (not work full-time) but this is something I feel strongly about. I am however, only required basically to check what the Shelter has been told by the people Reserving a dog, is true.
It depends on the shelter what their adoption requirements are.
For many of them, all you need to do is show them proof of residency (ID - or drivers license) and pay the adoption fee and you can take the pet home.
Breed rescues tend to be much fussier than shelters. Most of them will require vet and personal references, and a visit to your home (to make sure you are not an animal hoarder). Some require fenced in yards - while others do not. Our shelter will NOT adopt out to anyone who plans to keep a dog outdoors - other shelters may not.
Best bet is to call the local shelters or go on their website for this information.
You either go to their web site or CALL THEM.... and ask. Really simple.
Shelter rules, adoption questions, and adoption FEES may vary, widely from group to group. No, they will NOT want to know your INCOME, in fact that is probably an illegal question - to ask, just like gender or race.
First just go. They will ask u questions. What kind of dog do you want? Then they will
Have you look at digs they think will be right fir you.
They have a set price to adopt. I don't know how much.
Good luck
I don't think they ask for much maybe an identification and you have to sign some agreement forms. Over here where I live I think thats all they ask. They might ask you a few questions.
The major pet stores, PETCO and Petsmart, sponsor dog adoptions. Contact one that is close to where you live and ask when they will have their adoption event. Go to the store when it is going on so you can see and interact with the dogs. Talk to the adoption people there. Let them know your lifestyle. Such as if you are not an active person you wouldn't want a dog that needs lots of exercise. If you are a runner then you could get an active dog. And so forth. They are not there to judge your lifestyle. But to make a great match.
