Does anyone have any tips for visiting Compton?

Hi there I am going to visit Compton this weekend because I've always had an interest with the "hood" and gangster rap and I was wondering if anyone has any tips for staying safe while there, sights to visit, or restaurants that have good food? In case this matters, I'm sure it does, I am half white and half Mexican but look white mostly just in case you have any different tips regarding that! Thanks!

You are going to first be very disappointed. There are not world class restaurants other than the occasional fast food place or taco shop. If you want to travel a bit outside of Compton as someone else mentioned you could get yourself some Ikea meatballs.
You won't find a this "vibe" you are looking for and at 16 years old will just seen as "Fresh Meat" and most people will ignore you. However, if you go through at night and you will find a lot of the "locals" who will be glad to show you the "West Coast Vibe" by taking you to a back alley and giving you a .44 Caliber souvenir in your chest after they take your phone, wallet and anything of value you have on your body.
So I would highly suggest you buy yourself a bullet proof vest and hope for the best.

The only reason to go to Compton is if you know anybody who lives there or have business there. If you don't, you have no business there.

Yeah. Don't go. I hate the fact that TV and movies glorify Compton. I WORK with people from Compton, and they do everything they can to GET OUT. This is not a tourist destination. I don't know why you little boys think it's some sort of game.
You wanted my advice, and I gave it. Don't go. You won't get to be "down with the homies", because you're an outsider. You didn't grow up there. Those guys are tight because they have to stick together and back each other up just to survive. It's not what you think, trust me.Very dull and bland during the day, very dangerous and deadly at night.

Here's the thing... when home values top $400,000 or more, it doesn't make for a very good ghetto.
You are at least 15 years too late.

compton is ok! it's not what it use to be (it's more laid back now) cause most of the people from compton moved to the valley areas and took the ghetto with them

Some people say it's not that dangerous anymore if you visit. Real Estate prices went up and it's more diverse due to Hispanics, so you stand out less. However, this mainly applies to visiting and I still would not really walk around there at night time. Living there is an entirely different story.
