1 is wroing. I dont know how to explain why, it just doesnt make sence. If you had to fix 1 you could change it to' "it tries both, increasing the good done and reducing thd harm done."

1) is wrong, you should say 'to both increase'. The reason is simply because it doesn't make sense, grammar is wrong.
