Knee pain diagnoses?

I went to the doctors and I complained of knee pain, she said it had something to do with the 'tracks' under my knee cap and that they popped out and back in just the once and now it's still causing me pain a year on, she also said it is eroding a part of my bone, does anybody know what bone she is speaking of and what this is called please? She did say but I forgot...
