How to find the distance between two parallel lines of which second degree joint equation is given?

Is there any general formula for that or I would have to first find the equation of the two lines from their joint equation(which is indeed nearly subtle) and use the formula (c1-c2)/√(a²+b²)

I'm not sure I understand the question. You already have the formula.
Just use absolute value in numerator.

Distance between lines Ax + By = C₁ and Ax + By = C₂ is
d = |C₁−C₂| / √(A²+B²)
