Could a bad cylinder head temp sensor cause problems when starting from cold, such as smoke and erratic idle for first minute ?
Over recent weeks whenever I start my engine from cold it takes about 20 second to start the car, then it smokes (white) for about 1 minute after starting, the whole car shakes a well, after about 1 minute it clears and drives great all day and night but this problem occurs again the following morning.
Had it plugged in on a diagnostic today, there was a pending code about cylinder head temp sensor low circuit.
Could that cause the problems with this car ?
car is a 2006 ford focus sport 1.8 tdci.
thanks

.....yes - don't know the particulars for your car, but could affect cold start fuel enrichment, EGR, timing, manifold heat control valve (if equipped) etc.
Yes
It prevents the glow plugs kicking in.
Getting a new sensor makes more sense.
The other day a guy asked what was better, a Ford Focus or Toyota Camry. You can tell him how you feel with your Focus crapping out now.
You sure it said cylinder head temperature sensor? It sounds more like a leaking fuel injector problem. How about listing the code?
