What's wrong with my computer and how can I fix it?

I have an HP laptop, relatively new, that I got for Christmas. Yesterday I was using it how I normally do with it sitting on my lap when the screen started flickering randomly. Then it turned blue. I turned it off and in again, taken the battery out, and nothing. The most I've gotten is it flashing more colours, and once I was really lucky and got ten minutes of good screen time before it started again. I've never dropped it, slammed it, or treated it roughly. It's always been put in a case when I'm done with it. Is there a solution, or do i need to take it to the shop? Please, please help. It's for schoolwork and I won't graduate without doing it.

It's faulty; simple as that...

Contact wherever you got it from first to see if they will exchange it for a new one as it's almost new. Other than that, ask them about their warranty service; many retailers will handle it.

The manufacturers warranty is your last resort if the seller will not do anything.

You may even be able to insist on a refund then buy another new one immediately; it's all down to what part of the world you live in and what the sellers terms are.

In the UK/Europe you are protected by sale-of-goods laws and the seller is responsible for rectifying all faults in the first couple of years. For the first six months any fault is assumed to be a fault in manufacture.
