I don't know why the solution has to minus 4. Can you further explain the solution

The term [(0.01/1x10^-9) x 4] counts the number of molecules on the top, bottom and the two sides. In such counting, the molecules at the four corners of the square cross-section have been counted twice. Hence, we need to subtract the 4 double-counted molecules.
