BitLocker recovery issues?
I don t remember installing/encrypting bitlocker and have never even heard of it before. Turned on my laptop this morning and it shows a screen asking for a recovery key that everywhere I ve search on the internet says I should have from when it was installed? I can t find any sort of key and the Microsoft website is less than helpful, please help!

You don't say what your operating system is (very important information). Bitlocker drive encryption is integrated in certain operating systems. Since you didn't state your OS, I can't say if you should have this drive encryption or not. For example, WIndows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise have Bilocker Drive encryption. Win 7 Ultimate and Win 7 Enterprise also have it. Etc. So if you have an operating system that it is included with, then it's not something you would be 'installing'. If you don't have an OS that it should be on, then your computer is infected.
Are you getting some kind of weird message with a phone number wanting you to call? IF SO then DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER. But it means your computer is infected, IF this is what you are seeing.
Bit Locker is "ransomware". It's a class of malware that encrypts your files and then demands you pay the criminals to get the decryption key to get your files back. It's not a Microsoft thing, it's an organized criminal enterprise thing. You picked up the ransomware somewhere on the internet.
You can find Bit Locker removal tools on the internet. That gets rid of the malware, however it does nothing about your encrypted files. If you have backups, you could restore them. If not, you will either have to pay the ransom or kiss your data goodbye.
But locker us legitimate.
It can be used as ransomwear.
It takes several housman to install and normally runs seamlessly.
If there is an issue then the key is needed.
There is no way to get in a legitimate bit locker system without the key which csn be anything.
You have ransomware. You possibly have lost all your files.
Check in your Microsoft Account. Is. Go to
www.live.com and log in there.
If it s a company PC, check with your IT dept who can get the key from Active Directory.
