Hi, just thinking about a character much like Hazel in the Fault In Our Stars (but the book s not going to be anything like that except for the cancer part!). My knowledge on cancer is limited- what kinds of cancer allows the patient to stay at home, with checkups and such at the hospital every few weeks?
Like Hazel s oxygen tank and such, but I don t want it to be her exact cancer as that would legit be copying. Also, I m not trying to be offensive, I m very sorry if it sounds like it! Thanks for helping if you can.

Breast cancer is one and they can have wonderful support district nurses calling in as well as specialist counsellors from cancer charities like Macmillian. For a male character pick something like Prostate cancer.
If you Google them and their coping strategies you'll be able to make the character more compelling.

Most kinds of cancer could be like that at some times during treatment.
So your character is a woman?
Well, I'll tell you about my dad. He had cancer for about 4 years. Most of that time he was at home with my mom to care for him. He would go to the hospital periodically for chemo. The pain medication made him a little confused, but he still managed his own medication by having a chart written down. He would set an alarm clock for the time he was to take his meds, and he would check it off on the chart when he took it. He was able to do this to within just a few months of his death, when he got too confused to do it.
Later he had an IV inserted and a nurse came periodically to service it, but my mom did the rest. It was routine. He died peacefully at home.
The cancer was colon cancer and metastasized prostate cancer. Women don't get prostate cancer of course, but colon cancer they can, and most any kind of cancer can metastasize creating generalized weakness.
