Is it too risky to move to LA with no job?

I currently live on the east coast, and it'll probably be hard getting hired anywhere living across the country. I have about 12K in savings; no kids. 12K can go quickly here though.

The cost of living in California is horrible. You be lucky if that $12,000 will last you 3 months without a job.

High risk usually means high reward. Go for it.

yes and no.

yes because trying to get a place here is a wild goose chase. but you say you have 12k? use 6k to pay upto 6 months rent to lease a 1 bedroom shack or studio... if you can find one. theyre hard to find. you have to REALLY look, but they exist and arent usually listed.

but you can get a job here, no problems. its finding a place that may be difficult. unless you can negotiate something with a sympathetic landlord looking to rent.

in which case, rent a cheap motel room out of town and commute (the motels here are like $73 bucks a day and up, without discounts). the homeless shelters here are packed and you have to set reservations for a bed (yeah, i know... i was trippin' out about this when i heard).

alternatively, you can live out of your car until you get a job and get on your feet. thats what we did. the only thing is, its hard to find places to park that dont require you to park for a certain time and leave. UNLESS you find a walmart with lots of empty spaces (they have a bathroom). and you can drive to the nearest beach to use the outdoor shower heads. THIS is one of the best options you have without spending money on a place w/out income.
