Algebra help?
I'm stuck on this question.
x=-5 y=-4
y² - 3x²
I did the first step and got:
-4²-3(-5)²
but i'm not getting the answer my textbook says. (-59)
回答 (3)
When x = -5 and y=-4 :
y² - 3x²
= (-4)² - 3(-5)²
= 16 - 3(25)
= 16 - 75
= -59
x = -5
y = -4
y^ - 3x^2 = ?
(-4)^2 - 3(-5)^2 =
16 -3(25)
16 - 76 = -59
Looks like your mistake is (-4)^2 = 16 not -16 and (-5)^2 = 25 not -25
y^2 =16,
3 x^2=75
Now 75-16= 59,
Since 3x^2 is bigger that y^2, You get the answer -59.
You are making the mistake
y^2= (-4)^2=(-1)^2 4^2= 16,
not - 4^2
