Give both an advantage and disadvantage of a diesel engine over a gasoline engine.?

Advantage, No ignition system system required after starting, MPG (fuel energy) much higher than gasoline, torque at low RPM much higher than other fuels.

Cons - Engine weight is very high, fuel is more expensive/gallon, acceleration is marginal but unstoppable, some issue in cold weather if additives not used.

Con: The paraffin wax will separate and clog the filters/nozzles in cold weather.
Pro: Extremely difficult for the engine fuel to explode.

Side note: Herr Diesel intended his engine to run on cheap used vegetable Oil. The petroleum industry converted the engines to run on their expensive product.

diesel gets better gas mileage, but has trouble starting when its cold.
