Physics Rotational Acceleration Help?

2 Masses, m and 2 m are free to rotate about a frictionless pivot at location x. Mass m is placed at 0 (x units to the left of the pivot) and 2 m placed at 3x(2x units to the right of the pivot). Write an expression that will give the initial angular acceleration of the masses once they are released and free to pivot?

Assuming the connecting rod is massless and the rod is initially horizontal:

moment of inertia
I = mx² + 2m(2x)² = 9mx²

initial torque
τ = (2m*2x - m*x)*g = 3mxg

and so the initial acceleration
α = τ / I = 3mxg / 9mx² = g / 3x
