Xbox 360 wont take a prepaid xbox gold card?

My brother has an xbox 360 he just went and bought a gold card for 12 months and when we try to put it in it says this "this payment option can't be used for this purchase. Please select a different payment option or select a new one." Anyone know how to fix this thanks

Gold cards are only good for a Gold membership you cant buy a game with it. You cant buy Gold with a gift card either only games.

An Xbox Live Gold code isn't a 'payment option', it's just a code.
Hit the Guide button, go to Games and Apps then Redeem Code. Enter the 5x5 code and you should be set.
