The "soul" is nothing more than wishful thinking. Our personalities come from our brains. When we die, that chemical reaction (life) ends. It's like turning off your computer. If our personalities can somehow survive the destruction of the body (brain being part of that body), how? What is the mechanism that allows it to survive? Where does it go? How does it replenish itself? None of it makes any sense at all, and the more you think about it, the more the idea falls apart. If you're afraid of death, I'd say that is natural as we are organic beings whose very nature is to survive and pass on our genetic material. Nobody wants to think about being squelched out of existence but then again, seeing as you won't be conscious and won't even know you're dead (or that you once lived at all), what difference does it make? I don't have any recollection of the billions of years that passed before I was born.

No. There is the mind, body and soul. The mind drives the body and the soul is the character of choice (either of God or of Satan) that drives the mind.

In a sense, they are similar.
