Make sure that the camera isn't in a "green" or AUTO mode. It's common for menu features to be grayed out when cameras are in these full-auto (aka idiot mode) positions.

Return it to the store with the box, everything that came with it including the sales receipt. If the camera has a factory defect, you are entitled to a free replacement of the exact camera model within 1 week of purchase.

Take it back and exchange for a new one. I assume you have read the manual. After you have chosen your language there is one more step to actually select it and move to the next step. This is really basic stuff, so I have to assume your camera is broken.
